How Does Molybdenum Electrode Affect the Quality of Fiberglass?
Taking the family as an example, among the items that can be made from glass, jars and windows made of soda lime glass and kitchen utensils made of borosilicate glass are the older siblings in the family. The fiber-optic cable used to transmit almost all of our communications is the eye-catching youngest child. While the glass fiber is the child in the middle, important but often forgotten.
Fiberglass quietly makes its way into carpets, ceilings, roof tiles and many building materials. When combined with plastics, composite materials can be strong, hard and lightweight, which is why automakers and other manufacturers use these reinforced materials to make energy-saving products.
Many people may not realize that glass is manufactured and used in fiber form because these applications are almost hidden in our daily life. Not only that, glass fiber is widely used as a thermal insulation material for houses and buildings, but it is easily overlooked as it is usually covered by gypsum board.
Fiberglass may not be a flashy material, but it is everywhere. This is also big business. Today, glass fiber reinforced materials have more than 40,000 applications. Globally, manufacturers produce about 5 million tons of raw materials each year, mainly for insulation and composite materials. Market analysts estimate that the output value is close to 14 billion U.S. dollars in 2017, and predicts ground tungsten carbide rods that this number will climb to more than 21 billion U.S. dollars by 2025.
In the production of this material, the molybdenum electrode plays an indispensable role. Electrodes made of high-purity molybdenum materials have very good high temperature and corrosion resistance, and good dimensional stability, electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity. They are often used as heating materials in glass, rare earth and other fields.
When preparing glass melt, the good performance of molybdenum electrode plays an important role. Electrodes with high density can produce high-quality finished products as the impurity affects the chroma and transparency of the glass. High density is beneficial to prolong the service life of the furnace and the electrode, and at the same time it is not easy to be corroded by the molten glass. Therefore, to obtain high-quality glass fiber, the material to produce electrode should be with high density and purity.
